Resurfacing

Pool resurfacing in Houston: plaster, pebble, quartz

Plaster, pebble and quartz finishes that renew the shell and the colour of the water.

Chapter 01

What a worn pool finish looks like

You feel it before you see it. The floor turns rough under your feet, rust-coloured or dark stains stop coming out with a brush, and patches of the surface chip away to the grey cement underneath. Tap a suspect spot and a hollow sound means the finish has let go of the shell behind it.

Houston is hard on a pool surface. Hot summer water speeds up chemical wear, calcium scale builds where the water line sits, and clay soil that swells and dries moves the shell enough to crack a finish that has aged. A finish in that condition holds dirt and algae, and it exposes the structure to water it was never meant to sit against.

Plaster, pebble or quartz, then the cure

The three finishes behave differently. Plaster is smooth and classic, a cement and marble-dust coat. Pebble sets small stones in the cement, so the floor is textured and wears slowly. Quartz uses graded quartz aggregate for a denser, more colour-stable surface. We walk through all three with you against the pool, the sun and the look you want.

The steps are the same whichever you pick: drain the pool, remove loose and failed material, prepare the shell so the new coat bonds, apply the finish in one continuous pass, then fill straight away. A new finish cures under water, so the hose goes in as soon as the last trowel mark is made, and the start-up chemistry is set up and watched through the first weeks.

Chapter 03

Keeping a new finish from ageing early

Water balance decides how long a finish lasts. Keep pH, alkalinity and calcium in range, brush the new surface through the first weeks, and don't let the water sit aggressive or scaling. Most early rough spots and stains trace back to chemistry, not to the finish itself.
