Saltwater pool system repair in Houston

Salt chlorine generators and their controls repaired so the water chemistry holds.

Chapter 01

What goes wrong with a salt system

A salt chlorine generator makes its own chlorine from dissolved salt as the water passes through a cell. When it stops doing that, the first sign is rarely an error code. It is a pool that looks a little cloudy on Thursday and green by Sunday, in a Houston summer where algae needs about a day and a half to take hold.

The cell is a set of coated plates, and those plates wear out. They also scale over when the water runs hard or out of balance, and a scaled cell makes less chlorine than the display claims. Around the cell sit a flow sensor, a power pack and a control board, and any one of them can fail without the others showing it. A salt reading that looks fine on the screen and a pool that will not hold chlorine are a common pairing.

Testing the system, not guessing at parts

We do not trust the display alone. The water gets tested by hand first, and that result is compared against what the controller says. If the two disagree, the sensor or the readout is the first suspect, not the cell.

Next the cell comes out and gets inspected. Scale on the plates is cleaned off the correct way, without scarring the coating. Worn or flaking plates mean the cell is at end of life. Then the flow switch, the cell wiring and the power pack output are tested, and the control board is checked for the faults that heat and moisture cause.

You get the finding in plain words: clean it, repair a part, or replace the cell, with the reason for each. If the real problem turns out to be water balance or a circulation issue upstream, we tell you that too, rather than selling a part that will not fix it.

Chapter 03

How you know it needs attention again

Salt cells are a wear item and they run best on balanced water. Hold the pH and the other readings where they belong and scale builds slowly. Let them drift and the cell clogs, the plates age faster and the repair bills repeat.

Watch for chlorine that will not stay up, a cell light or fault code that keeps returning, visible white crust on the plates, or water that clouds right after a rain or a hot spell. Any of those means it is time for a look. Sutton Pools has been repairing Houston pools for more than 15 years. Call (281) 789-4584 for a free quote and a straight answer on your salt system.
