Pool pump and filter repair in Houston
Pumps, motors and filtration diagnosed and repaired, or upgraded to energy-efficient equipment.
Chapter 01
Pumps and filters that wear out in summer
The pump is the heart of a pool, and in Houston it works hard. It can run for most of the day from spring through October, pulling water through the skimmers, pushing it through the filter and back to the returns. Heat and constant duty wear out shaft seals, bearings and start capacitors on a predictable schedule.
The symptoms are easy to recognise. A grinding or screaming whine usually means worn bearings. A motor that hums but will not turn points to a failed capacitor or a seized shaft. A pump that loses prime or throws bubbles back into the pool is drawing air through a lid O-ring, a cracked union or a leaking suction line. A pressure gauge that climbs between cleanings says the filter is loaded, and water that will not clear says it is not catching what it should.
Filters age too. Cartridge elements flatten and tear, DE grids split, and sand beds channel and cake. Each fails in its own way, and each can look like a chemistry problem when the real fault is circulation.

Diagnose first, then repair or replace
The work starts with the readings: pressure at the filter, whether the pump primes, how the motor sounds and draws under load, and what the basket, impeller and seal look like once the housing is open. That separates a cheap repair, such as a seal, a capacitor or a gasket, from a motor that is past saving.
From there we explain the options plainly. Replace the motor and keep the pump housing. Install a complete new pump. Clean or recharge the filter media, or replace the cartridge, grids or sand. Fix the plumbing that is letting in air. Sutton Pools has been working on Houston pools since 2007, and the first answer is always the honest one, including when the part you were about to buy is not the problem.

Chapter 03
Energy-efficient pump and filtration upgrades
When a pump is due for replacement, a variable-speed model is worth a look. It runs slower for longer, which moves the same water with less power draw, and it can be scheduled for different jobs: a low speed for daily circulation, a higher one for vacuuming or running a water feature. It is also quieter than a single-speed pump running flat out. The pump has to be sized to the plumbing and the filter it feeds, which is part of the assessment, so the new equipment suits the pool instead of fighting it.
Filtration gets the same treatment. A filter sized for the pool and cleaned on a sensible schedule keeps the water clear without forcing the pump to work harder. If the plumbing, valves or controller around the pump are the weak link, those get put right at the same visit.
Ignoring a noisy or struggling pump is how a modest repair turns into a seized motor and a green pool in the same week. If you notice a new whine, a rising gauge, cloudy water or a pump that cycles oddly, that is the moment to call.
